PROGRAM INFORMATION
Our KPAC Young Artists Theatre summer production for ages 9 - 12 will be "Bugsy Malone, JR." Every young artist who registers and auditions will be included in the production. There is a $50 participation fee. Participants must be between the ages of 9 and 12 years old on the performance dates. Exceptions can be made to include a young artist's slightly younger or older sibling for ease of family scheduling; however, all lead roles will be assigned to performers in the 9 to 12 age range.
AUDITION for Bugsy Malone, Jr. on Saturday, May 9 at 9:00 a.m. or on Sunday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Auditions will consist of singing, dancing, and reading, and will be done in groups to keep the atmosphere light and not stressful. Any young artist who wants to perform a vocal or dance solo or a monologue may do so, but this is not required.
Rehearsals will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. beginning on June 1. There is a rehearsal every weekday, however, not every young artist is called every day. A call schedule will be released each week to let you know which actors are called on what dates. We know now that June 1 and 2 will be ALL CALL days, meaning every cast member is called. "Production Week" is the entire week of July 6 through July 9 and will consist of ALL CALL days. Cast members may not be absent for rehearsals during Production Week.
ABOUT BUGSY MALONE, JR.
Our middle group of young artists, ages 9-12, perform Bugsy Malone, Jr. Based on the 1976 hit film starring a pre-teen Scott Baio and Jodi Foster, and featuring a catchy, swinging score by the composer of The Muppet Movie, Bugsy Malone JR. is good, clean comedic fun!
Two gangs in a fictitious city populated only by children are in a rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan's gang has gotten the upper hand since acquiring the "splurge gun," a weapon that shoots....well.....splurge. Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust into the limelight when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam's gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love, Blousey....but that just isn't in the cards for our hero.
